EXCHANGE WITH TEACHER LE RICH TO
THE FIRST ONE RECOGNIZED RANK 3 IN NUNCHAKU

 

* Can you tell us a little about yourself?

- Teacher Le Rich To: My full name is Le Rich To, born on January 20, 1983 in Hai Hung province. My permanent place of residence is group 4, Suoi Luc hamlet, Xuan Đong Commune, Cam My district, Đong Nai province. Now I live in ward 16, district 8, HCMC.

 

* When did you study Nunchaku ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I loved Nunchaku since 1995 and started studying it in September 2003.

 

* Do you think that you are too young to be a teacher ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: To me, age is not important, but specialized knowledge for teaching. In my mind, I always idolize my former Nunchaku teacher. He taught Nunchaku when he was younger than me. So, I am not young any more.

 

* What things made you study Nunchaku ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I studied Nunchaku because of my passion and liking.

 

* When starting to study Nunchaku, did you feel it difficult ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: When starting this subject, I found it difficult because if there was no concentration in training, injury could be occurred. However, due to my passion for this, I realized that learning Nunchaku was really easy.

 

* What do you need to prepare in order to teach a large amount of students?

- Teacher Le Rich To: First of all, I prepare the lesson plan and techniques needed to transfer for students at class. I also divide learning content into many phases to teach techniques and movement. In addition, it's is neccessay to insert supplemented movements and games during break to train discipline and order.

 

* Did you feel anxious on the first day of lesson?

- Teacher Le Rich To: On the first day of lesson, I could not avoid the feeling of anxiety. Because of a great number of students and especially my age, I paid attention to control myself when everyone noted my sayings and behaviour.

 

* Do you feel happy to be a Nunchaku teacher now?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I am really happy to be a Nunchaku teacher now because I can work in my favourite major.

 

* How did you train yourself to be a teacher now?

- Teacher Le Rich To: To reach what I have tody is not really easy because I took a lot of time to train hard. While my friends in the same course could entertain freely, I had to train Nunchaku when I had free time.

 

* How many hours do you use to train to be a good Nunchaku person?

- Teacher Le Rich To: Beside studying at class, I take advantage of time to train in the afternoon and in the evening, even think about techniques and movements of Nunchaku in my sleep.

 

* What do you think of Nunchaku ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: To me, Nunchaku is a terrific sport because it not only consists of hight fighting spirit but also a spectacular artistic value.

 

* What interesting things of Nunchaku made you hard- training?

- Teacher Le Rich To: To me, training Nunchaku either gets healthy or trains my will. Nunchaku helps me train my patience and persistence a lot. 

 

* Do you have any difficulties in specialism now ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: Now the most difficult thing is my time of training. I am not a student any more, I do not have time to train more. Sometimes, I think out  new techniques, but I have to quit. What a pity!

 

* Can you tell a little about your former teachers who led you to success tody?

- Teacher Le Rich To: My first teacher was Mr. Nghia, the second Mr. Cuong and the third Le Ly Thuan, head of Nunchaku subject and a person who creates and re-systematizes Nunchaku subject.

To me, all of them are very good ones and I wish I could do like them. One of teachers who instructed me to be successful is Mr. Thuan. He showd me what Nunchuku is and also if I want to be skillful at Nunchaku, I not only learn from old and available things but also I have to think and create new ones.

 

* What did you think when you first studied Nunchaku ?

- Teacher Le Rich To: At that time, I found that it was a difficult subject and I could do that as people do. Moreover, I also thought that there was no difficulty if I was industrious to train.

 

* Is there anyone competing with your achievement in your Nunchaku course?

- Teacher Le Rich To: In general, if there is no competition and effort to overcome in every field, you are never better.

 

* Have you ever felt bored?

- Teacher Le Rich To: Yes. In the training process, sometimes I can not carry out techniques though I already practice many times, I feel bored at that time and wonder why I make myself misserable. But that thinking is quickly over and that failure helps me patient in training.

 

* Are you proud of reaching level 3 in Nunchaku while others also intend to do that?

- Teacher Le Rich To: Compared to other colleagues and especially my teacher, I'm not a good one. I have to learn a lot from them.

 

* Can you share a little bit about your secret of success for next generations?

- Teacher Le Rich To: My success is hard training and learning things I have not known, studying both bad and good experience from others, even the younger ones because each has his own strength. Finally, I draw my conclusion.

 

* Are you going to become a head of Nunchaku subject in future?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I myself think that I do not have enough knowledge and ability to become a head of Nunchaku subject.

 

* Do you intend to spread Nunchaku into other provinces and cities?

- Teacher Le Rich To: My best wish is to popularize Nunchaku nationwide. In my opinion, Nunchaku is very useful to those who train martial arts. If I have an opportunity, I will try my best to develop Nunchaku more. 

 

* Do you have any plan in future?

- Teacher Le Rich To: My plan is to practise Nunchaku and study more in order to teach more effectively in future.

 

* Do you intend to work for MIC Center for a long time or come home to work if there has better condition?

- Teacher Le Rich To: If MIC Center gives me a chance to teach and work for a long time, I will stay here to develop Nunchaku subject because it is the place where most students from provinces to study. Thus, my dream in popularizing Nunchaku nationwide becomes true.

 

* At present, you have reached what you wanted.  Do you still train Nunchaku as before?

- Teacher Le Rich To: At present, I am teaching Nunchaku, so I do not have much time to train it as before.

 

* What do you do in your free time (such as walking or listening to music…)?

- Teacher Le Rich To: When I have free time, I usually listen to music, think and research new techniques of Nunchaku.

 

* As I know, you have just graduated from school in martial arts specialism. So, do you intend to be a martial arts instructor or do you choose other career?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I decided to choose martial arts to study and of course, I will follow my career I like.

 

* You are taking over too many tasks, so are you under the pressure of school authority?

- Teacher Le Rich To: Now I am a staff of finance and accounting department, a teacher of Nunchaku subject and a teaching assistant of somersault gymastics. In spite of plenty of work, MIC makes the condition so that I can finish the assigned tasks well.

 

* Did you have any difficulties in reaching level 3 in Nunchaku?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I had many difficulties in researching competitive techniques and Nunchaku competitive rule for 3 years. Now Nunchaku competitive rule is relatively stable in techniques.

 

* Do you feel happy with things you have?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I feel happy because I can follow the career I love and what I did. It is not only my accomplishment  but also my maturity that I felt after my failure. 

 

* Do you intend to take Nunchaku teaching as your main career?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I am not sure. But probably I will open martial arts class to teach beside doing other things, such as doing bussiness (laughing).

 

* Nowadays, martial arts is considered as a popular sport to exercise health and partly be a movement. What do you think of it?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I agree that martial arts is regarded as a healthy exercising way. In addition, martial arts is a way of training personality. In general, in my opinion, martial arts consists high humanity and education. 

 

* Among martial arts subject now, what is your most favourite kungfu discipline? Why?

- Teacher Le Rich To: I favor Karate-Do most (Japanese martial arts). The nature of Karate-Do which is the antagonistic competition without weapons on hands is useful in life. Also, bushido's spirit is special. You will feel exciting if you have chances to see Karate-Do fighters demonstrating basic combinations of their discipline.

 

* Are there any differences in your feelings now and before (not train martial arts)?

- Teacher Le Rich To: It was my great change from timidity and lack of confidence in the past to self-confidence and self-decision after studying for 3 years at MIC Center. I think that MIC students will be like that after graduation, not only me. 

 

* According to you, what differences are there between a physical education teacher and a martial arts teacher?

- Teacher Le Rich To: A physical education teacher and a martial arts teacher is different. Teaching physical education is always following a certain frame. On the other hand, beside available frames, martial arts requires students ' creation, thinking and self-education. This makes martial arts more abundant day by day.

 

* Can you give some advice for students who like or train martial arts at MIC?

- Teacher Le Rich To: In my opinion, beside studying well specialized subjects, you have to learn basic science subjects such as  Human Body Surgery, Sports and Gymnastics Education Theory and Methodology, First Aids..., because this is general knowledge that help your teaching.
